We know that finding the perfect position can be challenging. That’s why the experienced staff at our office in Dobbs Ferry, New York, take the time to learn about you and your skills and requirements before matching you with a family who shares similar values, philosophies and interests. This thoughtful guidance and support will help to ensure long-term success with your family.
Every client family is thoroughly screened and completes a detailed application, including previous employees and a job description, prior to placement. We strongly encourage all families to outline their Helper’s roles, responsibilities and expectations prior to the interview process.
Family Helpers wants our Helpers to succeed. In addition to being available to discuss work-related issues and concerns after placement, we regularly host social get togethers and holiday parties for our Helpers.
When there is a mutual understanding of employment terms prior to the start of employment, the employment
experience tends to be much smoother. Therefore, Family Helpers encourages families and Helpers to create an
employment agreement that outlines each party’s role, responsibilities and expectations prior to the Helper’s
start date. We can assist by educating families and Helpers on current employment practices and customs.
We suggest that the agreement clarify and include:
- Work schedule
- Pay schedule
- Visitor policy
- Vehicle use
- Television and internet use
- Sick time
- Paid holidays
- Vacation time
- Overtime compensation
- A basic job description
For live-in Helpers, we also suggest clarifying:
- On- and off-duty time
- Meal and snacks provided by employer
- Private and common areas
- Vehicle use while working/not working
Family Helpers will also provide information about group health insurance plans for Helpers,
as health insurance (in full or part) is sometimes, but not always, offered as an employment benefit by families.
Our goal is to provide an array of quality, well-screened domestic help services
(nannies, mothers’ helpers, companions), individually matched with equally
well-screened families, to provide a mutually enriching experience.
Family Helpers takes pride in placing only the best Helpers.
